Voice The voice of a verb shows whether the subject of the sentence performs the action or receives the action. There are two voices:� active  and� passive . A verb is active when the subject performs the action and a verb is passive when the action is performed on the subject. More on active and passive .

Examples:

  • Active voice :  A big snake swallowed a small snake.
  • Passive voice : A small snake was swallowed by a big snake.
