Either and Neither as Adverbs
As an adverb , either is usually used when one negative statement follows another, and it is placed at the end of the second negative sentence in place of too and also .
Examples:
- I can’t lend him money and I can’t lend you either .
- He said he didn’t like me, and his wife said she didn’t either .
- “I can’t spell very well.” “I can’t either .” Or “Me, either .”
As an adverb , neither is used to introduce a negative statement to add to the one that has just been made.
Examples:
- “I don’t like hairy spiders.” “ Neither do I.”
- “I have never won much in a lottery.” “ Neither have we.”
- “I can’t spell very well.” “Me, neither .”
